digital MUSE

Hal Layer’s brief taste of the Triadex Muse, jolted me a bit. Because I have one. A non-working model, that I have been assured needs only a bit of cleaning to, ah, make it work.It was donated by synthesist Charles Cohen.

The Muse: a music composer machine or digital
synthesizer and melody composer, involving early
logic modules in a unique circuit that allows the
possibility of 14 trillion musical note combinations.

Mr. Layer’s link is broken, but more informaion, including a preliminary simulator, can be found at Paul Geffen’s Triadex Muse Simulator Page.

04.23.04 UPDATE

Here is another picture with some useful info.

I dug mine out last night and finally separated the4 circuit board from the font panel, breaking the volume-control slider in the process. I cleaned the thing up–it was pretty bad. But it still didn’t work. Then…. it did! Then it didn’t, again. And then…. Well, basically, there’s a short or loose wire somewhere. Next week!

A rather expensive Muse didn’t sell on ebay $1700 opening bid?!? Glad I cleaned the dust off mine.
